[KHTS] – Many Santa Clarita Valley organizations and businesses are hosting Veterans Day events Tuesday to honor the men and women who have served in the U.S. military.

“Veterans Day is a day that lets people understand the sacrifices that veterans have made,” said Chuck Morris, founder of SCV Vets 4 Vets and a veteran of the Korean War. “It kind of keeps us veterans appreciated for all the sacrifices that we’ve made. Veterans Day really and truly is a very important part of our culture and being an American. We need to celebrate our veterans and what they’ve done for us.”

Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center Flag Ceremony

Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center officials are planning to host their second annual Flag Ceremony in Newhall at 10:15 a.m.

“We started Veterans Club there and hadn’t done things like this before,” Morris said. “It’s really kind of neat. There’s over 150 veterans that belong to the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center.”

Veterans Historical Plaza Event

City of Santa Clarita officials are planning to host Veterans Day ceremony at the Veterans Historical Plaza in Newhall at 11 a.m.

Mayor Laurene Weste, Mayor Pro Tem Marsha McLean and Council Members Dante Acosta, TimBen Boydston and Bob Kellar are expected to attend the event.

Retired United States Marine Corps Master Sgt. Tim Stratton will host as master of ceremonies.

Men of Harmony and RockNacappella will perform songs, council members will recognize Santa Clarita Gold Star families, all branches of service and families of service members.

The event will conclude with a benediction by Pastor Andre Veluzat, an invitation to a barbecue at the American Legion Hall and an invitation to photograph the veterans who attended the event.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6885 Barbecue

Officials at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6885 in Canyon Country is hosting a barbecue in honor of Veterans Day.

“I believe we’re going to be cooking a pig,” Morris said.

The event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

Eternal Valley Memorial Park Ceremony

Eternal Valley Memorial Park Mortuary will host a Veterans Day Ceremony designed to bring the community together to celebrate, honor and remember America’s heroes who fought to defend our freedom.

The event will be held Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at Eternal Valley, 23287 N. Sierra Hwy., Newhall.

“We are proud to recognize all veterans and especially those in our community. We are committed to honoring the memory of those who fought, who gave their lives and to celebrating the dedication of those who are holding the post today,” said Curtis Woods II, general manager of Eternal Valley Memorial Park Mortuary. “In addition, we want to offer a special thanks to all veterans for making it possible for all Americans to live in freedom.”

Early Tuesday morning, Boy Scouts from Troop 2 from Santa Clarita will gather to place flags on the graves of veterans buried at Eternal Valley.

The service will begin a welcome from Woods. The guest speaker, Joseph Karl, U.S. Army, VFW Post 6110, will talk about the meaning of Veterans Day.

The event will include a Flag Retirement Ceremony by Boy Scout Troop 58 and a Wreath Laying Ceremony. Attendees are invited to stay for light refreshments.

Veterans Movie Night

Veterans Advocacy Network officials are planning to host a Veterans Movie Night at the Canyon Theatre Guild in Old Town Newhall.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a Wine & Cheese Reception along with a barbecue dinner.

Tickets for the reception, dinner and movie are $60 per person.

Movies & Snacks will begin at 7:30 p.m. and cost $20 per person.

The movie will begin at 7:45 p.m.

Military Tribute Days

Santa Clarita veterans and their families are invited by Santa Clarita Transit representatives to take a free ride to Knott’s Berry Farm for free park admission.

The one-day, round-trip service on Saturday, Nov. 22 coincides with the theme park’s 25th annual “Military Tribute Days” promotion, which offers free park admission to all retired or active U.S. military veterans, plus one guest.

Residents and local veterans can board the one-day Santa Clarita Transit service at the Via Princessa Metrolink Station at 8:00 a.m. or the Newhall Metrolink Station at 8:30 a.m.

Riders can bring a donation of three canned goods to support the Santa Clarita Transit Holiday Food Drive to ride the bus for free.

Buses will depart Knott’s Berry Farm for Santa Clarita at 5:30 p.m.

Upon arrival at Knott’s Berry Farm, U.S. veterans, retired and active military personnel will be required to present military ID or proof of U.S. military service to receive complimentary admission to the park.

Veteran, retired and active military personnel must be present.

Passengers under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
