[KHTS] – Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials partnered with other local organizations to host their 24th Annual Haunted Jailhouse event Sunday.
California Highway Patrol, Los Angeles County Fire Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are some organizations that had representatives attended the event. Dozens of nonprofits, businesses and organizations had booths at the event, as well.
“This is great for the community,” said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “Because of the strong partnership in the community between the residents that we serve, local law enforcementand the Los Angeles County Fire Department, we can open up the Sheriff’s Station and have this great day with thousands of people showing up. Everybody’s having a great time.”
Thousands attended the event, held in Valencia, where they could walk through two different dressed-up parts of the jailhouse — one for older kids and one for younger kids.
“The haunted jailhouse was awesome,“ Dubin said. “They did a great job this year.”
The main maze had zombie-fied Boy & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley participants who were infected by a disease and were attacking Sheriff’s deputies who were giving a tour of the station. In the end, the participants make it out alive but are infected by the disease.
“We’re here to have fun and enjoy the holiday,” said Erica King, whose husband works at theSanta Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and has been attending the event with her sons 7-year-old Hunter King and 4-year-old Cody King for the past two years. “The best part is the atmosphere which is a lot of fun, the kids enjoy it.”
Other activities at the event included the “Douse a Deputy Booth”, costume contests, various law enforcement vehicles and a zip line, put on by the Sheriff’s Station’s Search and Rescue Team, just to name a few.
“It’s really fun,” said Erica’s son, Hunter King, adding that he wanted to dunk his dad in the dunk tank. “Last time it was really fun.”
All proceeds of the event will go to the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley.

A fun time but disappointed they closed the line for the main attraction– the Haunted Jailhouse– 40 minutes early. Later as the line was nearly empty I tried to get our two grandkids in, yet a volunteer refused, saying, “The actors need a break”. I told her, “A break?? The thing closes in 10 minutes!”
