The College of the Canyons women’s soccer team shut out Pierce College, 2-0, to stay unbeaten on the season and in Western State Conference play.

The Lady Cougars are 5-0-1 in conference and 11-0-2 overall. They are ranked No. 5 in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

The College of the Canyons men’s soccer team lost to Santa Barbara City College, 2-1. Martin Adame scored the lone goal for COC in the first half. He tied the game in the 41st minute.

Santa Barbara scored the game-winner in the 47th minute, two minutes into the second half.

The Master’s College men’s soccer team beat Westmont, 2-1, scoring both goals in the second half. Gerald Ben gave the Mustangs a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute. Austin Michelson scored the game-winner in the 76th minute.

In college volleyball, The Master’s College women swept La Sierra in three games. Sam Dougherty led the Lady Mustangs with 10 kills and Aubrey Bekendam had seven kills and 12 assists.

In college golf, The Master’s College men’s team was fourth in the Cal State San Marcos Fall Classic. The Mustangs shot 6-over 869 as a team and were 20 shots behind host Cal State San Marcos, which won the two-day tournament.

Thane Ringler from The Master’s College was tied for eighth place with a 3-under 213 in the three-round tournament.

In high school golf, the West Ranch girls won the Foothill League match at the TPC at Valencia by seven strokes over Golden Valley.

Hart’s Jamie Corr shot the low round of the match though. She was even-par at 36. Julie Ward paced West Ranch with a 4-over 40.

In high school volleyball, the Hart girls team knocked West Ranch out of first place in the Foothill League standings with a thrilling, five-game win.

Hart, West Ranch and Valencia entered the night tied for first place in league. The Indians won the first two games and the fifth game, 15-7, in their match against West Ranch.

Valencia knocked off Saugus in five games to keep pace with Hart. Canyon beat Golden Valley in four games.

The Trinity girls volleyball team lost to Faith Baptist in three games. Santa Clarita Christian lost to Lancaster Baptist in five games.

In the NBA preseason, the Lakers lost to the Utah Jazz, 114-80, in a game played at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

Kobe Bryant put on a show though. He scored 31 points in the game, 23 in the third quarter.

But the Lakers lost their fourth game in a row in the preseason and have yet to win a game.
