Chris Talley, a 2013 graduate of The Master’s College, sighed a free agent contract with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Former Mustang catcher Chris Talley has been signed by the MLB’s Tampa Bay Rays organization.
Talley, a Simi Valley native, is currently training in Port Charlotte, Florida, in the Rays’ extended spring program.
After training camp, Talley expects to play catcher for the Hudson Valley Renegades on the Short Season A level, the Princeton Rays on the Advanced Rookie level, or the GCL Rays on the Rookie level.
“It came to me as a shock after being out of baseball for a year and to get a call from the Rays saying that they needed catchers to help out in the extended spring season and into rookie ball,” commented Talley. “I’m really honored and excited to be a part of this opportunity. If you’re obedient to the Lord and honoring Him daily, He will grant the desires of your heart…I’m so humbled by this opportunity.”
In his time at The Master’s College, Talley played in 197 games and scored 72 runs, collected 215 hits, compiled 38 RBI’s, and hit 21 home runs.
In 2013, Talley threw out 50% of attempted base stealers.
Since graduating from The Master’s College in 2013, Talley has been a varsity assistant coach at Heritage Christian High School in Northridge.
“I’m so thankful the Lord has given me this opportunity,” further commented Talley. “My main goal through this next stage of life is to honor the Lord and share the Gospel to my teammates.”
