LASD Press Release, 11:41 p.m.:

At approximately 10:30 PM, the suspect, wanted in connection to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer, which led to a Deputy-Involved Shooting in Newhall, was taken into custody by LASD’s Special Enforcement Bureau.

There were no injuries reported.

UPDATE Monday 10:35 p.m.:

The suspect has been taken into custody and is en route to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station for booking.

LASD Press Release, 8:53 p.m.:

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Special Enforcement Bureau, is on scene in the 25200 block of Vermont Drive, Newhall, regarding a barricaded suspect inside the location.  All occupants of the residence have been evacuated, and it is believed that the suspect is the only person barricaded inside the location.

Residents in the immediate area have also been evacuated from their homes for their safety.

The suspect is wanted for Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

On Monday, February 02, 2015 at approximately 8 a.m., a victim called the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station to report that a white male had just stolen his landscaping pickup truck.  The victim called from the 25200 block of The Old Road, Stevenson Ranch, to say that a suspect jumped in his truck, a white Ford F-150 pick-up with the name of a landscaping company printed on the sides, and drove it away.

The stolen vehicle was equipped with some type of tracking equipment which led deputies to the area of Newhall Avenue and Sierra Highway, Newhall.  One deputy located the vehicle on the 24200 Block of Oakriver Lane, Newhall.  The deputy spotted a person talking to the driver of the stolen car.  Believing the person might be associated with the suspect, the deputy made contact with him.  During the contact, the suspect vehicle suddenly drove up from a service road toward the deputy and the citizen in an apparent attempt to injure or kill one or both of them.  The deputy fearing for his and the other victim’s safety fired one round at the suspect.  The bullet hit the passenger window causing the suspect to crash into a small retainer wall.  The suspect then fled from the vehicle and ran away on foot.

A large area was contained and searched for several hours in order to locate the suspect.  Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies were assisted by Palmdale Station, Lancaster Station, Special Enforcement Bureau and Aero Bureau Deputies during this search operation.  The search location was between Dockweiler Avenue and Newhall Avenue, to the north and south, and Sierra Highway and Valle Del Oro, for the east and west.

As the investigation progressed, detectives were able to identify the suspect as Mr. Jesse Tucker, a white male, 30 year old, who lives in the area but has no known address.  He was last seen wearing a dark colored shirt, black pants and a blue baseball style hat.

The large search for the suspect was unsuccessful and currently detective units are following leads in order to locate and arrest this suspect.

Mr. Tucker’s photo is not being released at this time.

The suspect is not believed to be armed, and probably is aware that he is wanted.  Please contact law enforcement if you have any information regarding his whereabouts.

Whenever an Officer-Involved Shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies, and the suspect(s) is not wounded, multiple investigations immediately begin at the scene.  These include separate investigations by the Sheriff’s Internal Affairs Bureau as well as Sheriff’s station or Detective Division investigators.  Once concluded, every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff’s Executive Force Review Committee.

[KHTS] – Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies are searching for a suspect in Newhall in connection with an officer-involved shooting Monday morning.

The suspect is a Newhall man named Jesse Tucker, 29.

Tucker allegedly stole a truck from gardeners while they were landscaping in the the 25200 block of The Old Road in Stevenson Ranch.

Tucker was driving around in a white F-150 that had been reported stolen and, according to witnesses, Tucker was trying to sell stolen gardening equipment when a deputy spotted Tucker in the 21000 block of Oakriver Lane in Newhall.

Deputies were trying to detain the driver for questioning regarding the alleged car theft when he allegedly tried to run over the officer. The deputy fired a round at the truck.

The incident began at 8:46 a.m. Oakriver Lane in Newhall, officials said. Deputies recovered the truck after finding Tucker, who fled on foot.

Two schools were briefly on lockdown – Our Lady of Perpetual Help and McGrath. Extra deputies are still in the area on patrol, according to Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Deputies no longer believe Tucker is in the immediate area of the initial search. There will be additional patrols in the time being, he said.

Deputies  placed two elementary schools on lock down as a precautionary measure.

The deputy was not injured, and it’s unknown if the suspect was hurt by the deputy’s fire because he fled the scene on foot.

K9 and helicopter units were called to assist deputies’ search.

Tucker has had numerous run-ins with the criminal justice system, according to court records.

He was convicted of vandalism in October 2003, and then again in January 2004. He was convicted of narcotics possession in January 2006, according to court records available online. He was convicted again of the same charge in March 2006.

In August 2006, he was convicted for illegal possession of drug paraphernalia, to wit, hypodermic needles. In August 2009, he was convicted of grand theft auto in December 2009.

He was convicted of felony theft in January 2012. He was convicted of driving without a license and evading arrested in June 2012.

He served six months in jail for the most recent charges, according to Sheriff’s Department records. He had a warrant out for his arrest at the time of his alleged crimes Monday morning.
