While their parents are across town at Central Park on Saturday listening to Jack Mack and the Heart Attack cover ’60s R&B tunes, local teens will be rocking out – at a church next door, ironically, to a retirement community.
Uturn, the youth wing of The Sanctuary Church on Friendly Valley Parkway, will host a free Summer Concert Festival specifically for teenagers from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Headliners include Christian-inspired pop rocker Johnny Strat and local ska band Set Match Run – formed in 2007 by members of the Gold Star Brigade at Canyon High School.
The lineup includes NoHo indie group Protect the Mona Lisa, along with three more acts from Canyon Country: The Borrowers, a Celtic-Christian trio; folk singer Nathaniel Dobies; and James Marcus, who makes his final SCV appearance before heading off to college in Boston.
A comedic duo, the Brothers Belardinelli round out the evening.
The first 150 teens to show up get free food from a food truck, and a prize will be awarded for the most tricked out fixie bike.
The concert is free. Uturn at the Sanctuary is located at 26444 Friendly Valley Parkway. For information visit www.uturning.com.
