A Valencia biotech company rolled out an enhanced device this week that helps people walk again after suffering from a stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injury.
The device, the L300 Plus, is the newest advancement from Bioness Inc., a firm in the Rye Canyon Business Park whose products restore function for pain sufferers and those living with neurological deficits.
Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration earlier this year, the L300 Plus combines Bioness’ NESS L300 Foot Drop System with a thigh cuff to activate more leg muscles and nerves for greater control while walking.
“For individuals living with central nervous system disorders, lack of mobility can be a challenging and life-altering issue,” Senior Vice President Todd Cushman said in a statement. “With the L300 Plus, we aim to provide the more than 150,000 physical therapists and 3,200 neurorehabilitation clinics in the United States another option for helping neurological patients with gait disorders.”
The first purchase order came from Sheltering Arms Physical Rehabilitation Centers of Richmond, Va. The L300 Plus is now commercially available to neurorehabilitation hospitals and to consumers for home use, Bioness said.
