A high rate of speed led to a crash that sent two Santa Clarita Valley teens to the hospital Tuesday afternoon, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
Heather Cavallero, 17, a senior at Valencia High, was driving northbound on Tesoro Del Valle, near Calle Verano, where she “failed to negotiate a right turn” around 3 p.m., according to CHP Officer E.J. Bejar, who filed the report.
Both driver and passenger were wearing their seatbelts in the crash. Cavallero’s rate of speed was going is part of an ongoing investigation.
Cavallero lost control of the 2003 Mustang she was driving and crashed into a light standard north of the roadway, the report states.
There was one passenger in the car, Taylor Lahs, 16, also of Santa Clarita, who sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Both were taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. Their conditions are not known at this time.
CHP and L.A. County Fire Department personnel responded to the scene.
Cavallero sustained major injuries as a result of the collision.
There were no arrests and drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
This collision remains under investigation.
