The National Weather Service has called a Fire Weather Watch for this weekend for Los Angeles and Ventura County mountains and valleys including the Santa Clarita Valley due to continued gusty northeast wind and low relative humidity.
A Red Flag Warning ended at 10 a.m. today.
The extended period of offshore flow will continue in L.A. and Ventura counties Friday.
The strongest northeast winds are expected Friday night, with gusts 40 to 50 mph across the L.A. and Ventura County mountains, and between 35 and 45 mph across coastal and valley areas.
These gusty offshore winds will create the potential for very rapid fire spread, long-range spotting, and extreme fire behavior with existing fires and any new ignitions.
The humidity will remain very dry Friday with widespread single-digit humidity. This will result in continued critical fire weather conditions.
The Santa Barbara County Mountains (including the upper elevations of the Thomas Fire) and adjacent foothills will experience north to northeast wind gusting between 30 and 40 mph, possibly stronger, with continued low humidity late Friday night into Saturday, prompting the Fire Weather Watch.
Gusty northerly wind could surface into the Santa Barbara County south coast as well, but the wind at this time is not expected to be strong enough to warrant Red Flag conditions.
Northeast wind gusting between 35 and 55 mph combined with low humidity will extend the potential for critical fire weather conditions across the mountains and valleys of L.A. and Ventura counties later Saturday night into Sunday.
A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Check back for later forecasts and possible Red Flag Warnings.
