Public Safety and Crime Prevention Info
Snapshot 09/23/2013 to 09/29/2013

My name is Deputy Josh Dubin, one of the public information officers here at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. I am also the former CPU zone leader for the Newhall (Zone 6) area. Although there has not been a zone leader assigned to Stevenson Ranch / Westridge (Zone 3) for a number of months, recently new private funding was secured as I spoke about last week. This funding is still not sufficient to have a full time zone 3 leader, however, I was able to review the part one crimes reported for zone 3 during the above dates. I prepared this report to keep local area residents information of current public safety and crime prevention information and trends.

There were nine reported part-one crimes between the above dates. Here are some details regarding the crimes:

A petty theft from an unlocked vehicle was reported to have occurred in the middle of the night on Sunday night, September 22nd 2013. This crime occurred on the 25300 block of The Old Road. A car stereo, Carrie Underwood music CD, and a pair of sunglasses were stolen (ref – 13070).

A vehicle was reported stolen on Monday, September 23rd 2013, at approximately 12:05am. This theft took place on the 24800 block of Pico Canyon Road at a gas station. The victim reported he was getting gas for his vehicle and left his car keys on the driver’s seat of his unlocked vehicle. When the victim returned from paying for his gas inside the location, he discovered his vehicle was stolen (ref -13061).

A commercial burglary was reported from a business located on the 25500 block of The Old Road. This incident occurred on Tuesday, September, 24th 2013, at approximately 9:15pm. Property was stolen while the business was open (ref -13163).

Three people were arrested for commercial burglary and other theft related charges regarding an incident that occurred at Walmart located on the 25400 block of The Old Road. Deputies responded to a call for service at that location on Tuesday, September 24th 2013, at 11:30am. After an investigation, three people were ultimately arrested (ref -13118).

A grand theft occurred on the 25300 block of Carson Way. This incident occurred between 09/11/13 and 09/24/13. Sterling silver silverware was stolen from inside a residence. It is possible the victim’s roommate stole the silverware. The investigation is on-going (ref – 13187).

A petty theft was reported from “Sit N Sleep” located on the 25000 block of The Old Road. A five foot used copper pipe was stolen (ref -13298).

A vehicle burglary occurred from Six Flag Magic Mountain on Saturday, September 28th, 2013. A cell phone, tablet, and US currency were stolen from inside a vehicle. There was no forced entry, and the victim was 100% sure he locked his vehicle (ref -13327)

A 29 year old female was arrested at WalMart on The Old Road after deputies responded to a call for service. This incident occurred on Sunday, September, 29th 2013, at 1:00pm. The female was arrested for burglary, possession of a fictitious check, and for allegedly passing a fictitious check (ref -13365).

A purse was reported stolen from Six Flags Magic Mountain on Saturday, September, 28th 2013 (ref -13376).

A new scam to be aware of is phony insurance solicitors claiming to be with the government. The callers will claim to be helping sign people up for the new government insurance plans under “Obama Care”. Be sure to research the legitimate government website at http://www.HealthCare.gov If you need information about the plans, use the contacts provided by the government for the health agencies you would like information from.

Remember to keep those anonymous crime tips coming in. Call 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or visit http://lacrimestoppers.org.
