Well, unfortunately you got a sales pitch once again. I guess when water agencies spend that much on PR without even having the issue on any of their agendas, everyone should know that the public is being sold down the river, so to speak.
The history of “water” in California is fascinating – if you like tales of thievery, assault, and trickery. There’s an old saying, “Whiskey is for drinking and water is for fighting over”. It’s still true,
Of course most of the fun stuff happened long before the current legal and governmental forces intervened. Now it’s more about politics, money, and more trickery.
That’s not to say that that good people with good intentions aren’t elected and hired to work for the organizations that control water. I believe that is generally true. However there is another fairly old saying that is also true; it’s sometimes called Maslow’s Hammer. Paraphrased, it says: “To a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail.”
To an agency/company that manages water, everything with water looks like it should be theirs to control. How else can those people do their jobs to serve us if they don’t control the water?
There’s lots of info available on the interweb, pro and con on water management in California, including our own little bucket here in SClarita.
For those who dare, I predict you will be amazed, shocked, and depressed if you look long and hard enough. And you might even be able to see some light shining on the current goings-on.
I don’t know that much about the merger, but I have seen the names of the most vocal opponents, and that’s enough for me! Let’s just say that I don’t value their opinions. They’re always negative.
