Two people were airlifted after a driver reportedly suffered a seizure and crashed into oncoming traffic Sunday afternoon in Agua Dulce.

A total of five people were injured in the crash, two, a husband and wife, were airlifted and three were taken by ambulance, according to Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Mickey Schaffer.

The incident occurred after the driver of a white Honda reportedly suffered from a seizure and crashed into a Toyota van around 3:15 p.m. on Agua Dulce Canyon Road, according to Schaffer.

The male driver of the white Honda was heading eastbound on Agua Dulce Canyon Road when he reportedly had the seizure before running a stop sign and colliding with a white Toyota van, according to Schaffer.

Two were airlifted after a driver collided with another car after reportedly suffering a seizure in Agua Dulce on Sunday afternoon.

A woman was trapped in the van and had to be extricated by emergency crews, said Schaffer.

The passenger in the Honda did not have any serious injuries.

  1. So sad. Hoping all will be okay.

  2. I have always felt that a person who has a history of seizures should not be given a driver’s license.

    • Linda Morgan Linda Morgan says:

Could have been the first one.

    • Debra Martin Debra Martin says:

As I remember they have to be seizure free for a year. But really this could happen to any of us, maybe not seizure but heart attack or other horrible incapacitating event. Hope everyone involved will be ok.

    • Sarah Kendig Sarah Kendig says:

Wow! Love your comment! NOT! People can have a seizure at any time if its their first! Maybe they had no health problems before hand! People need to think before they post!

    • Sarah, Why so angry? If it was his 1st than that is vastly different than people who drive around who have a history of seizures. If you read my post, I clearly stated that I was referring to a person with a history of seizures. Should I repeat it again? People who are quick to anger should also think before they post. Merry Christmas

    • Debra Martin you’re absolutely correct a heart attack, stroke, and many other medical conditions can happen suddenly and have tragic results. If this was his first seizure that is a tragic coincidence, but if it isn’t his 1st he needs to be held accountable for sending a family to the hospital.

    • Sarah Kendig, in general there are health reasons behind a seizure. They do not just happen to anyone at anytime.

      • Faye says:

Yes seizure can start and stop at any time, with no medical condition. My daughter had seizures for 4 years then nothing for the last 15, and leads a normal life.

    • Yeah, but maybe it’s a health issue they were unaware of…anyways, who cares. Just hope everyone ends up okay!

    • Debra Martin Debra Martin says:

When I worked in the ER in Minnesota being diagnosed with seizure disorder we had to inform the DMV. But that was many years ago. California DMV is a little loose in rules, my last Dmv pic and eye check was 2002 because we renew in the mail.

    • John de Vos John de Vos says:

Michael Erickson are you a doctor? Let me make some assumptions too,ok? You love cheap burger meals, pizza, mexican food and beer and sodas. You ignore the signals your fat gut repeatedly give you and one day BOOM! Some of it dislodges from the inside of an artery and blocks the blood flow to your brain and TADAAAA! You have a seizure…..

    • I had 2 seizures last Tuesday
.my first ever and I am 52 years old, my dr said not to drive until he figures this out and I wont. I was lucky that I was home and not driving. If I had one while driving I would have 5 seconds to stop my car and that csnt happen. So for my safety and the safety of others I will Uber it.

    • Are you a medical doctor? Are you THIS persons medical doctor?
Just so you know – I have been known to have seizures – etiology unknown

    • Sarah Kendig Only the experts comment – have you noticed – sorry just a bit of sarcasim

    • Michael Erickson Mine did

    • I for one have been diagnosed with epilepsy and was able to get my license back after a year of no seizures. They are very strict when allowing you to get your license back, as they should, as an unfortunate incident like this can occur. But to take a license from someone who doesnt have them anymore would not be right. You can control them with medicine and be seizure free for the rest of your life…

    • My son had a seizure at college doing work for a church – drinking coffee then a red bull to get work done – next morning had a seizure lost license for a while learned don’t drink red bull!

    • Carol Edmonds…just curious, but was your son sleep deprived?

    • Debra Martin, Cali is strict. I lived there when I had my seizure, had to wait 1 year and then retake driving test (behind the wheel) and also a phone interview/questionnaire.

    • John de Vos did you really just personally attack my weight? 1st no I am not a doctor, although i have a lot of experience with seizures. Your ignorance is enlightening as well as your juvenile personal attack on me. By the way (Dr John), what you described would be a stroke not a seizure. Your assumptions are incorrect by the way. I hate beer but I do enjoy a single malt Scotch or a glass of Crown Royal whiskey every once in a while. The last burger I ate was kobe beef, although I love Mexican food I do not eat it frequently. Oh and you are the last person who should be insulting my weight. By the way, your keyboard courage is such a delight to see. But I again end with saying you sir are the last person who should be attacking someone’s weight aka my “fat gut”.

    • Lin Nanson Geist, why do I need to be a medical doctor to feel that people with a history of seizures should not drive? It is my opinion and does not effect law in any way. Find someone else to battle with. By the way nobody in this feed knows my educational background, so where is this hostility coming from?

    • Sue Dixon Sue Dixon says:

Also my husbands uncle still drove his car even though he suffered blackouts, why? Because his wife hated public transport but since he passed away she has no choice but to use it

    • I want to add a small side note. It doesn’t change anything but it will explain why I felt this hit a little closer to home more than most car accidents in SCV. I have 3 kids and I Drive a Toyota Sienna minivan that I utilize to pick up my youngest son from his school on Agua Dulce Canyon Road. Had this happened 2 days ago it would have been during a time of day where myself and a large group of parents would have been driving on this exact road from the Santa Clarita Valley and from Aqua dulce picking up our kids from school. So I am NOT a doctor and that being said I cannot diagnose this person who had a seizure one way or the other nor do I know if this was their first seizure or if it was one of many. But this situation hit entirely too close to home and I made a statement based on how I feel about the situation. I in no way put myself out there as an expert in the medical field and I didn’t look at anybody’s personal Facebook accounts to make personal attacks on them if they disagreed with me. I welcome people to disagree with me, as I am NOT always right and I am very well aware of that. That does not mean that I did not have an opinion on this. People like John feel this is a place to attack from the safety of their keyboard. Well John go ahead and make yourself feel better by attacking me. I hope you go into this week of Christmas celebration looking at your family (who I assume must all be as thin as you are) who didn’t get sent to the hospital today by this driver.

      • R. Allen says:

The DMV WILL pull the license of the driver and he/she will have to “jump through hoops” to get it back. “Medical probations” and all.. Or he/she can be the a lot of others and just drive anyway..

    • R. Allen says:

Agreed, it could have been the “first one”. And, just a thought, a known alcoholic can drive and look at how many people die from alcohol involved traffic accidents. Just a thought…

    • I saw this right after it happened. Looked bad! I hope everyone is ok?

    • Riley Bowers Riley Bowers says:

It was his first seizure, btw.

    • Lucy Romero Lucy Romero says:

Ones they are diagnosed with seizures is their responsibility to surrender their licence. But after they are diagnosed their licence will not be valid anyways, They’ll will be driving illegally, as driving without a valid licence is a criminal offence, but the only way they can get in trouble is in cases like this.

Their car insurance will not be valid. Because of this they may have to pay the costs of a claim from another person.

    • Lucy Romero Lucy Romero says:

I know nothing about this case though.
Michael Erickson your concern is understandable.

  3. Prayers for the people that they are alright

  4. I always thought that you are never allowed to drive if you were diagnosed with seizure because even if you’re seizure free for years, if you have it, you have it.

  5. Mary Haskell Mary Haskell says:

    Prayers for all involved

  6. Theresa McGrath Cowdray

  7. Sad! I hope everyone will be ok!

  8. Lori Guerra Jordan

  9. Brian says:

One minor correction… I believe the driver of the Honda was headed westbound. Since both cars wound up west of the intersection, I don’t see how it could be otherwise…

  10. Such a tragic event. Prayers that everyone will have complete and quick recoveries.

  11. This is really unfortunate. My wife and I were in the traffic line and we were not sure what had occurred. I hope all that were injured recover from this unfortunate accident.

  12. Prayers are in oder

  13. I agree with u Michael Erickson

  14. John de Vos John de Vos says:

A seizure could be anything, even your first seizure ever. Very unfortunate. But stop making assumptions, please….

  15. Sad…I will be praying everyone is 100% ok

  16. Tony Greene says:

Michael Erickson. Anybody can have a seizure. You don’t have to be diagnosed with a medical condition. All it is is misfiring neurons in the brain. That can happen to anyone.

  17. Oh my God…Mom called and wanted to know what was going on in front of the house….I wasn’t home…So sad…..

  18. Mark Austin Mark Austin says:

Tracey Sherman Danielle Davis Nicole Austin

  19. cheri says:

This is why they call these “accidents”, they are not intentional, they just happen sometimes, we shouldn’t accuse people, lets just pray for all involved!! It’s Christmas people.. Peace on earth..

  20. Omg, i heard the heliacopters

  21. Linda H says:

Where on AD Canyon did this happen? I hope everyone heals quickly. Prayers for all.

  22. I agree but when there is no support in many areas leaves you at a no choice situation – epilepsy foundation about made a joke of me having to get to any functions – basically was told TFB! Thank you but you will take a donation – about 20 years ago I tried to get them up here – actually they did do a small carnival – never again though! I have been intimidated by family – TAKE A BUS the bus don’t come out this far – ok take a taxi I am not paying $25 one to get to target or Dr appt round trip $50! I respect what I have you will never see me on the freeway – only local (if no driver ) it does suck – try applying for a job and mention it (next applicant), so all I can say is Thank you for support-as I drive to Walmart!

  23. Try applying for disability you need to have more than 2 seizures a week well darn my happen every 6 months – there is also different types of seizures – but controlled by medication- so I sit home in front of TV all my life then THANKS AGAIN

  24. You can have a heart attack… life happens, get over it.

  25. Hope everyone is OK God watch over them

  26. Vince Manuel Vince Manuel says:

Some of these comments are ridiculous. I’m a tow truck driver and clean these incidents up. I see them everyday. It’s called an accident. It’s not the persons fault he had a seizure. He could have had a heart attack a stroke or any other kind of ailment. It’s a freaking accident. Have some compassion people. Everyone has an opinion behind their keyboard.

  27. Tracy Spencer says:

I agree with Vince, besides I never see people get so up in arms, when someone causes an accident from a drunk driver. Drinking and driving is a bad decision, on the side of this discussion, driving while having the knowledge of possible seizures, is also a bad decision. When my first wife had brain cancer, the hospital notified the DMV of her affliction and they suspended her driving privileges. Once she got a clean bill of health and retook the driving tests, she has her license back and she is back to work. There are systems in place, as long as there is knowledge…..Best to all involved, Merry Christmas to all!

  28. This is soooo sad!! My prayers to them and their families ??

  29. Wow didn’t hear about It surprised.
