Cameron Smyth

Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, R-Santa Clarita, has accepted a Senior Fellowship with the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs for the 2012-13 academic year. The Senior Fellows Program is a civic engagement program that connects the world of political and policy action to education for the public interest.

“I am honored to have been offered this fellowship,” said Smyth. “As I finish my final term in the Assembly, I’ve been looking for ways to continue devoting my time to public service, and this is a great opportunity with a great institution.”

UCLA Luskin is one of the nation’s preeminent public affairs institutions, with a mission of bringing together various disciplines to find solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges. As a Luskin Senior Fellow, Smyth will be delivering a policy briefing and participating in a mentorship program during the upcoming year, for students who are considering careers in public service.

“I’ve spent more than a decade in elected office, at the state and local levels, and it’s important to share my experiences and the lessons that I’ve learned over that time with the next generation of leaders,” said Smyth.

Smyth’s first engagement as a Luskin Senior Fellow will be a debate on California’s 2012 ballot initiatives with former Governor Gray Davis. The debate will be held on Thursday, November 1, and is sponsored by the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs and the UCLA Institute for Research on Labor and Employment.
