Newhall, Zone 6

Public Safety and Crime Prevention Information

Snapshot for 10/08/2012 through 10/14/2012

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Crime Prevention Unit

[LASD] – This week Newhall (Zone 6) had 11 reported Part-1 crimes. Of those 11 crimes, three were petty thefts, three vehicles were stolen, one vehicle was burglarized, there was one reported theft from an unlocked vehicle, and three shoplifting incidents.

The vehicle burglary occurred on the 24900 block of Alderbrook Drive in Newhall. An unknown suspect broke into a locked vehicle and allegedly stole the victim’s medication. There was no evidence of how the suspect made entry into the vehicle (ref -14388).

A vehicle was stolen from the 21200 block of Ficus Drive. It was later recovered by Fresno Police Department. Another vehicle was stolen from the 24600 block of Walnut Street. It was later recovered, found parked a few hundred yards away. A third vehicle was stolen from Valle Del Oro and Costa Brava in Newhall. That vehicle is still outstanding.

As the end of the year approaches, please be extremely aware of your surroundings and where you choose to park your vehicle. Do not leave valuable items in plain view inside your vehicle. Do not give thieves an easy opportunity to ruin your holidays.

On a proactive note, COBRA Detectives Norian and Burrow were patrolling when they saw a male urinating in public view while standing on the 25200 block on Main Street in Newhall. Upon contacting the male, and after conducting an investigation, the detectives found the male to be in possession of cocaine. The male was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and for urinating in public (ref -14447).

On another positive note, COBRA Detective Finn and I worked together on Friday (10/12/2012) during the late evening hours. Our goal was to address concerns residents had in the Newhall area, while conducting a routine patrol of Zone-6. While conducting a patrol check of Newhall Park, we contacted a male seated in an unlit area of the park. After an investigation we discovered the male was in possession of methamphetamine. The male was also in possession of a glass pipe commonly used to smoke illegal narcotics. The suspect, Brian Berry, MB/34, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and for possession of narcotics paraphernalia (ref -14443).

As a reminder, the City of Santa Clarita is encouraging community members to keep an eye out and report graffiti whenever possible using the City’s online request system or by calling the City’s graffiti hotline at (661)-25-CLEAN / (661)-252-5326.
