None of the three Foothill League girls golf teams advanced in the CIF Southern Section Central Division playoffs. West Ranch, the league champion, shot 460 and was eighth out of 22 teams in the Central Division playoffs at Los Serranos Golf and Country Club in Chino Hills. The top-four teams advanced to the next round of the golf playoffs. Hart shot a 482 and was 13th. Golden Valley, making its first playoff appearance in school history, shot 496 and was 19th. Palos Verdes won the Central Section tournament with a team score of 393.

The Hart football team won its seventh game in a row, 35-0, over Saugus and remained as the No. 1 team in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division poll.

Valencia moved up  a spot to No. 3 in the Northern Division after beating Canyon, 54-41. Canyon was ranked No. 8 after losing for only the second time this season.

The Trinity football team stayed at No. 4 in the CIF Southern Section Division II 8-man poll after a come-from-behind, 35-34, win over Faith Baptist.

The Canyon girls volleyball team finished in fifth place out of 30 teams in the Sylmar Tournament. Lauren Underwood was selected to the all-tournament team. She recorded 36 kills. Canyon lost to Venice in the quarterfinals. Venice went on to win the tournament. The Valencia girls volleyball team finished in seventh place in the gold division at the Nike Tournament of Champions in Arizona. The Vikings went 1-2 on the second day of the tournament with a win over Roseburg.

In high school cross country, runners from Foothill League produced some impressive times and results at the 65th annual Mt. San Antonio College Invitational over the weekend. Samantha Ortega from Saugus won the Division II varsity race in 17 minutes, 26 seconds. Three runners from Saugus finished in the top seven and the Centurions won the team portion of the Division II meet. Canyon’s Valeria Soto was 10th and paced her team to a third place finish in the Division II meet.  AJ Yarnall from Saugus ran a personal-best 14 minutes, 55 seconds and was seventh in the Division I-II sweepstakes race. The Saugus boys finished in 11th place in the Division II meet. Golden Valley was 13th. Golden Valley’s Chelsey Totten was second in the girls Division I-II sweepstakes race in a personal-best 17 minutes, 18 seconds. Taylor Welker from West Ranch was second in the Division I girls varsity race. She completed the course in 18 minutes, 24 seconds. The West Ranch girls team was fourth in the Division I girls varsity meet.

In baseball, the San Francisco Giants shut out the St. Louis Cardinals, 9-0, in Game  7 of the National League Championship Series. The Giants will play the Detroit Tigers in the World Series starting on Wednesday.
