emblem012913bAn open house will be held Feb. 20 and several community meetings will start this week for families with children in the Saugus Union School District who will be attending – or might want to attend – Emblem Elementary School when it reopens as “Emblem Academy” in the fall.

The open house will be held from 4 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. at the school, located at 22635 Espuella Drive. Its principal will be Jon Baker and the school phone number is 661-294-5315.

The Saugus School Board voted to reopen the school, which has been completely renovated as a two-story buiding. It will have an academic focus on STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Math – through project-based learning.

* If you are currently an Emblem family attending Highlands, your child will automatically be enrolled at Emblem for the 2013-14 school year.

* If your child currently attends another Saugus District school and you are interested in having your child attend Emblem Academy starting next year, please pick up an Intra-District Transfer request form at your school office, beginning Feb.1.

* If your child is attending another K-6 school outside of the Saugus Union School District and you are interested in having him/her enroll at Emblem Academy, you must first obtain an Inter-District Transfer
request from your home school district and submit it to the Student Services Office in the District Office.

* Priority enrollment will be given to families who reside within the Emblem boundaries.
