The Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center is offering a free, 10-week course called “Caregiver Bootcamp: Lessons in Love,” starting June 13.
The course curriculum will focus on effective techniques and suggestions for caregivers, in addition to providing a forum for discussion. The classes will be led by care manager Stephanie Sauer, MSG, from the SCV Senior Center’s Supportive Services department.
“Caregiving is an emotionally charged, often difficult experience,” Sauer said. “This course is designed to best equip caregivers for the challenges they may face.”
Topics Sauer plans to cover include:
- Realistically identifying what is “normal” versus “not normal” aging;
- Best methods of fall prevention and home safety;
- Immediate, practical solutions for identifying and overcoming negative thought patterns;
- Proven strategies for engaging in difficult conversations and why it’s important.
The Caregiver Bootcamp will meet over six consecutive Thursdays at the Senior Center, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in rooms A-1 and A-2. There is no cost, but reservations are required and space is limited. To RSVP for the course or for more information, contact Sauer at (661) 259-9444, ext. 128, or email ssauer@scv-seniorcenter.org.
