The 2013 holiday season is in full swing as Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital gets closer to launching its 33rd Annual Holiday Home Tour.

On Saturday Dec. 7, the four-home tour will take visitors into the heart of Santa Clarita Valley neighborhoods to take in several themes of holiday decor.

Proceeds from the annual event will benefit Henry Mayo’s Women’s Services department.

This year’s theme, “Open Homes & Giving Hearts”, showcases the interior of Wiley Canyon, Stevenson Ranch and Westridge homes, garnished by homeowners and skillful designers.

holidayhometour1The hospital’s Home Tour League works each year to assemble the residences and pack and various surprises into each tour.

For homeowner Jenny Guthrie, the tour brings a number of her family’s antiques to life.

“There’s a lot of stuff in the house that’s important to me,” Guthrie said, motioning to a set of jars on a living room shelf.

“My uncle sold pharmaceuticals when he was in medical school,” she said. “Those are from the 40s.”

Upon entering Guthrie’s home, visitors will find a hutch designed and built in Scotland more than 200 years ago.

“I want it to be a comfortable place for everybody,” she said, standing below a set of period-pieced shoe stretchers she collected and hung over the mantle.

The tour, which runs from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 7, is open to all adults and children over 12 years of age. The festivities also include an indoor gift shop at Pico Canyon Elementary School from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the same day.

Those looking to catch a sneak peak into the homes and enjoy a buffet-style dinner can attend a preview gala on Dec. 6 at the Tournament Players Club in Valencia.
