[KHTS – Perry Smith] Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station beefed up school security as media outlets from across the country descended upon Valencia High School this morning.
The Hart district school received international attention over the weekend after a Golden Valley High School student posted threats of a school shooting online.
Sheriff’s Station detectives quickly discovered the student had neither the weapons nor a serious plan, however, deputies patrolled around Santa Clarita Valley schools Monday to make their presence known as a precaution, officials said.
“We utilized (Crime Prevention Unit), Crime Impact Team, Special Assignment Team, J-Team and reserve deputies, and they’re at the high schools and junior highs,” said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Crime Prevention Unit, noting numerous parents shared their appreciation after dropping off their children.
“Those deputies are working at the high schools and junior highs, then we’re using our patrol deputy staff and they’re doing high visibility patrol checks,” he added.
There are more than 75 schools in the Santa Clarita Valley, Dubin said, noting deputies were increasing their presence at all schools.
A 15-year-old Golden Valley High School student was arrested around 9 a.m. Sunday in connection with the threats, according to a Sheriff’s Station official.
The threats, which posted through the Instagram account “Yaboyplank,” showed pictures of guns and said: “TO THE PEOPLE OF THE SCV AREA. THERE WILL BE A HUGE (expletive) SHOOTING SOON… ” and went on to say the threat was aimed at high school students.”
Detectives recovered information that shows the suspect acted alone and no actual plan to assault any students or school had been formulated, according to a Nixle report from the Sheriff’s Station.
No firearms were found at the suspect’s residence, and the suspect’s family does not own any firearms. Based on statements made by the suspect, it appears he made these posts to get a reaction from friends on social media, realizing too late that the threats were being taken seriously.
The suspect was taken into custody and will be released into the custody of the Los Angeles County Probation Department.

Sharks are always in the ocean, whether seen or not. Same with threats, they exist whether know or unknown. Be aware but don’t live in fear.

All the “media attention”, all the posts and hand wringing on “social media”, all the extra police…….kinda gives a kid who doesn’t get much attention an idea. Stop making stupid people famous.

No “normal” person makes these kinds of horrific threats. This was not a funny prank. It might have been an attention hungry kid or a kid waving a red flag to get caught because he needs help. Bottom line, he’s got issues! Let’s not ignore even the smallest threats.
the article says that this kid made a threat only to get a reaction from his friends, so yeah attention-hungry psychopath
