The family of the man who died in a single-car crash over the weekend has set up a GoFundMe account to give back to the motorcycle racing community.
The crash, which occurred at about 2:18 a.m. near Pico Canyon Road and Stevenson Ranch Parkway, killed Steven Kirk, 22, and left two girls in the hospital with major injuries. Michael Palazzola, 24, was arrested and charged with felony gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, according to Shirley Miller public information officer at the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station.
The GoFundMe account has already raised over $1,700 for Riders Helping Riders, an organization that aims to financially assist riders who have been seriously injured while participating sanctioned events, and Rescue 3, a nonprofit organization that is devoted to assisting off highway vehicles when they are in need of search and rescue services.

“After the tragic loss of Steven Richard Kirk III, the family has decided to give back to the racing community. A portion of the donations will go to Rescue 3 and Riders Helping Riders. Both organizations help District 37 desert racers. The other portion will go towards the family to organize a celebration of life in the coming weeks for Steven Kirk III. The Kirk family thanks you all for your donations and support,” according to the GoFundMe account.
According to his Facebook page, Kirk hailed from Agua Dulce and graduated from Vasquez High School. He identified himself as a professional off-road motorcycle racer and a welder at KR Fabrication in Lancaster. He was studying metal fabrication at College of the Canyons.
According to California Highway Patrol, the crash is still under investigation.
