Deputies will be increasing their presence at Hart High School Friday after a student reportedly found a threat written in pencil in a boys restroom Thursday afternoon.

The student discovered the message on the bathroom wall at approximately 2:30 p.m. and reported it to school officials, according to Lt. Hahnlein and Shirley Miller of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Anytime anything like this happens they have to do due diligence and follow through and investigate, even if there is no credibility to it,” said Miller, public information officer for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Law enforcement officials do not know who wrote the threat but plan to provide additional resources to monitor activities during the school day Friday.

“You never know. We are always going to take any kind of threat seriously by stepping up our presence and patrols,” said Lt. Hahnlein.

An email was sent out by Hart High School officials to notify parents and students of the situation.

“Earlier this afternoon we discovered a threat against Hart High School written in one of our campus restrooms. We have contacted law enforcement and are investigating the issue. At this time we do not have specific details to share other than the fact that the threat was indirect and did not mention any specific person. The threat did mention March 25. Our school will remain open tomorrow,” the email said.

The email also asked students or parents with any information on the threat to contact the local authorities or the Hart tipline at HartTip@hartdistrict.org

“Student safety and staff safety is our number one priority. If we are going to err, we always want to err on the side of caution,” said Dave Caldwell, public information officer for the William S. Hart Union School District.
