The city of Santa Clarita wishes to recognize and thank the thousands of volunteers who contribute to the city’s programs and events in celebration of National Volunteer Week from April 10 through April 16, 2016.
The city recognizes the positive impact of service and volunteerism in our community and encourages residents to thank those who serve and to also find ways to give back to the community.
“Our volunteers are the backbone of our events and free programming,” said Mayor Bob Kellar. “Without their help, these beloved community events would not be as functional or enjoyable.”
In 2015, the city of Santa Clarita saw a record number of volunteers contribute to City events and programs. Residents, students, scouts, church members and seniors make up the 7,245 volunteers who served at events in Santa Clarita, such as the Cowboy Festival, Earth Arbor Day, Homework Help, River Rally, Concerts in the Park and more.
In 2015, Santa Clarita volunteers contributed time to 14 special events and other regular programs throughout the year for a total of 46,206 hours. The total volunteer hours are valued at $1,240,000 based on a 2014 hourly rate.
Residents interested in volunteering at special events, including the upcoming Cowboy Festival and Amgen Tour of California, or regular programming can visit SantaClaritaVolunteers.com.
