A brush fire that erupted Friday afternoon in the Santa Clara River bed in Canyon Country was blown south into the Angeles National Forest and had charred 3,327 acres with no containment by 9:45 p.m., with hundreds of homes evacuated.

Los Angeles County Fire and the U.S. Forest Service are in unified command. More than 300 firefighters are engaged.

The fire began in the wash on the southeast side of the intersection of Soledad Canyon Road and Sand Canyon Road at about 2:10 p.m.

Initial evacuated was the area along Soledad Canyon Road from the 14 freeway in Sand Canyon all the way to Agua Dulce.

As of 12:25 a.m., evacuations were mandatory from Bear Divide to the Los Angeles River Ranger Station at 12371 Little Tujunga Canyon Road, and voluntary from Gold Creek to the bottom of Camp 16.

A total of 200 to 300 homes were under evacuation.

Residents should be aware of wind shift, a Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesperson said. The fire is continuing to move into Little Tujunga Canyon, which separates the Santa Clarita and San Fernando valleys.

The evacuation center is at Golden Valley High School, and Canyon Country Park is closed while crews use it as a command post.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department, Angeles National Forest, California Highway Patrol, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Los Angeles Fire Department are on scene. Nearly 300 personnel are on scene.

LACoFD is using three helicopters with the United States Forest Service using two additional helicopters. Two fixed wing aircraft are being used.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

A SigAlert was issued at 3:15 p.m. Friday and was still in effect at 8 p.m. The HOV and number one lanes are open while the number two lane remains closed.
