Towsley FireA 20-year-old Lancaster man was arrested Thursday night for recklessly causing the Towsley brush fire, according to a news release from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Around 1:55 p.m. on Thursday, the station was notified of a brush fire on the 23900 block of The Old Road in Newhall.

Responding sheriff’s deputies assisted Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters with the evacuation of a U.S. Post Office, a paintball park facility and a church.

Witnesses observed a male suspect at the paintball park allegedly setting off a smoke canister during paintball games. The canister set off a brush fire which became uncontrollable.

A suspect was detained by deputies at the scene, based on witness statements.

Suspect Zachary Garcia, age 20, of Lancaster, was arrested, transported and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Garcia is charged with recklessly causing a fire (accidental).

LASD Arson and Explosives Detail detectives are handling the investigation.

Sandra Ibrahim ohhh. they gave a name.

  3. Angel Reyes says:

It says in parentheses (accidental) so how does that work ?

  6. So sad with the harm he caused. Hope they throw the book at him. So many families loosing homes…

  7. Thanks for making me late to work , Dick!!!! ??

    • It says nothing in the article about him being a firefighter

    • Brian Durand says:

I was just curious there’s a large percent of arson created by firefighters to to the fact that they are seasonal workers and when summer rolls around they want to get paid. They go on 24-hour shifts until the fires out meaning they get paid to sleep. At least that’s my understanding of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. No fire no money. That’s why every summer there’s a big fire in Santa Clarita this year last year next year Etc. Fire season

    • Jenna Marie says:

Brian Durand it doesn’t say anything about a firefighter. It states he is a 20 year old who was at the paintball park. Don’t make something it’s not… smh

  8. Reason why they insist on making sure that people know he is from Lancaster?

SCV has their own share of idiots.

  9. Someone didn’t think about possible consequences for his behavior. ?

  10. Worked late into the night with fiber optic cables being destroyed by the fire

  11. D S Benjamin says:

I have known him for at least 8 years. It was not brilliant thinking on his part by any means but he is a really good, well mannered kid who made a careless decision.

  12. Children’s obsession with fire and firearms sometimes lasts longer than childhood.

  13. We should he calling it the Zachary fire. If he started it its his fire. He should be associated with it. Maybe people would get it then and be more careful. Dont be like Zachary.

  14. Dan says:

Maybe he is a “good, well mannered kid” but he is definitely not a critical thinker. But that’s not to say he should think that he’ll never it into the White House.

  15. Helen Gast says:

    Bonnie Fortner Raitt

  16. Redge denning says:

Seems like an honest kid made a bad mistake and the way brush fires are in the Santa Clarita Valley if it don’t happen this year it’ll happen next year I hope he makes better choices in the future
