Update includes new detour route for northbound I-5.

The California Department of Transportation will close all northbound lanes of Interstate 5 (Golden State Freeway) in the city of Santa Clarita for repairs on Monday, Aug. 7 between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m.

The northbound lanes, including truck lanes and car lanes, will be closed between State Route 14 (Antelope Valley Freeway) and Pico Canyon Road/Lyons Avenue. Detours will be posted.

The one-night closure is part of a $171 million project to replace broken concrete pavement on almost 16 miles of I-5.

Over the next two years, the I-5 Roadway Rehabilitation Project will replace all of the concrete pavement in the outside lanes (#3 and #4 lanes) and replace broken concrete slabs in the inside lanes (#1 and #2 lanes) for a smoother, safer ride.

Beginning at 9 p.m. Sunday, up to two northbound lanes will be closed. The full closure will start at 1 a.m. Monday and end by 4 a.m. One or two lanes may remain closed between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. The schedule is subject to change and weather-permitting.

Detours will be posted as follows:

NORTHBOUND I-5 DETOUR (UPDATED 8/4):
Detour onto northbound State Route 14 (Antelope Valley Freeway) and exit at Golden Valley Road.

Go west on Golden Valley Road to Newhall Ranch Road.

Go west on Newhall Ranch Road to the northbound I-5 on-ramp.

DETOUR FROM SOUTHBOUND SR-14 TO NORTHBOUND I-5:
Use southbound I-5 truck route and exit at The Old Road off-ramp.

Go north on The Old Road.

Go east on Pico Canyon Road/Lyons Avenue to the northbound I-5 on-ramp.

DETOUR FROM SIERRA HIGHWAY TO NORTHBOUND I-5:
Go west on Sierra Highway, then go north on The Old Road.

Go east on Pico Canyon Road/Lyons Avenue to the northbound I-5 on-ramp.

Drivers are advised to plan on delays and drive with care in the work zone. Traffic fines are doubled in work zones, and the California Highway Patrol will be on duty.
