The California Department of Transportation will conduct a bridge maintenance project that will require overnight lane closures on several highway bridges and ramps in Ventura County during the next two weeks.

Truesdell Corp. of California, Inc., based in Tempe, Ariz., is the contractor on the $1.5 million contract, which provides for preventive maintenance on bridge deck surfaces to extend their service life.

All work will be done at night. The scope of work involves applying methacrylate resin to bridge decks, replacing joint seals and repairing some concrete surfaces.

The southbound lanes of the US Highway 101 bridge over the Ventura River, in west Ventura, will be the primary focal point. The project calls for resurfacing the bridge and then restriping the lanes. At least one southbound lane of US 101 will remain open while the work is underway.

Due to the nature of the work and the length of the Ventura River bridge, it will take most of the next two weeks to finish at this location. The work is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Monday, July 18, and be complete by Aug. 2 — just in time for the Ventura County Fair, which will run from Aug. 3-14 at the nearby Fairgrounds.

When the outside lane of southbound US 101 is being worked on, drivers who want to use the connector to northbound Highway 33 toward Ojai will be detoured along Ventura city streets. When inside lanes of southbound US 101 are being worked on, there will be lane closures but no detours to transition to northbound Highway 33. The lane closures on US 101 are scheduled at 9 a.m. nightly, ending by 6 a.m. the next day.

In Oxnard, the Vineyard Avenue (State Route 232) bridge over US 101 is scheduled to be resurfaced on Tuesday night, July 19.  One lane will be open in each direction at all times, but some ramp access will be detoured beginning at 7 p.m. The lane closures on Vineyard Avenue are scheduled to start at 11 p.m. Tuesday and end by 6 a.m. Wednesday.

West of Ventura near the state beaches, resurfacing will be done on the southbound US 101 bridge over the old Rincon Highway on the night of Wednesday, July 20. Traffic will be detoured onto Rincon Highway (also known as Pacific Coast Highway or State Route 1) at the Seacliff exit and then routed back on southbound US 101.

In Santa Paula, the Peck Road bridge over State Route 126 will be resurfaced on the night of Thursday, July 21.  One lane will remain open with a flag crew controlling the traffic in both directions.

North of Santa Paula, the Old Highway 150 bridge over Lion Canyon Creek will be resurfaced on the night of Thursday, July 21. One lane will remain open with flaggers controlling the traffic.

Traffic control signs have been placed in affected areas, with ramp closure dates listed. Caltrans reminds drivers to slow down and “Be Work Zone Alert.”
