I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as your Mayor of Santa Clarita for the third time. For me, this position is like coming home again. I am back on the third floor of City Hall in the same office I had during my first tenure in 2000 and again in 2004, and also the very same office my dad, Clyde Smyth, sat in during his tenure as Mayor in 1997.
When I was first elected to the council, I was in my late 20s. Now I am a father of three, and being a parent has fundamentally changed the way I view the world around me. My priorities and concerns as a father are shared with the majority of our City’s population. Concerns about traffic, public safety and the pressures our kids face on a daily basis will be in the forefront of my mind as I consider the policies and decisions we face in the next four years.
Having had the honor of serving on the California State Legislature as an assemblyman for the 38th District, I bring that valuable experience mixed with deep-seated roots here in the City. I look forward to serving the Santa Clarita community once again and making sure our City is well-positioned to thrive for decades to come, for my children and for all of yours.
As we look toward the future, we are also celebrating our past. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the City of Santa Clarita. Stay tuned for a series of special birthday events, contests and celebrations as we reflect upon three decades of cityhood. For more on our City’s big birthday plans, visit Santa-Clarita.com/30Years.
I look forward to working with the community and I want you to know I believe in having an open-door policy. I do my best to return every email and call. I may not always agree with you, but be assured I will always listen to you.
Feel free to reach out to me anytime at csmyth@santa-clarita.com.
Sincerely,
Cameron Smyth
