WHAT: Silent films made by youth through L.A. County’s Civic Art Program receive first screenings. The event is free.

Brief welcome and introductions. Four films, each film is between 2 and 10 minutes in length. Followed by Q&A with students and instructors, awards, refreshments and a free tour of the Hart Museum

BACKGROUND: The workshops in July and August during which the films were made gave local youth, who may not be familiar with the history of silent film star William S. Hart, a chance to explore the world of silent films and Hart’s legacy. The Los Angeles County Arts Commission Civic Art Program joins with the Parks Department, the William S. Hart Museum, and Fifth District Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich to create this opportunity for young people ages 10 through 17.

The silent film project is in its second year. The Civic Art Program of the L.A. County Arts Commission usually commissions permanent artwork for County capital projects, but the County’s Civic  Art Policy was defined broadly to include activities that enhance public spaces, such as parks, as well.
