1997 - Five bodies found during grading of Northlake development in Castaic; determined to be Jenkins graveyard [story]
reburial

[KHTS] – One person has died as a result of a multi-car collision on Interstate 5 in Castaic. The extent of six others’ injuries is unknown.

“There is one confirmed fatality but we have no information about injuries,” said Officer Jennifer Cassidy of the California Highway Patrol. “The number three and four lanes are expected to be closed for about three hours.”

The collision was reported at 1:58 p.m., according to Los Angeles County Fire Department officials.

fataltcCHP, Los Angeles County Fire Department Stations 149, 124, 76, 126 and Los Angeles County Department of Coroner’s officials reported to the I-5 North near the lower freeway crossover a couple miles north of Lake Hughes Road.

“It’s one vehicle versus two parked vehicles,” said Rey Dong, supervising fire dispatcher for LACFD.

(Update 3:21 p.m.)

“We’re still enroute to the scene,” said Captain John Kades of the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner’s office. “We have to confirm (the identity of the deceased) with fingerprints and notify the next of kin.”

There were nine total patients, four were transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, two declined medical attention, two “met the trauma criteria guidelines” and one was dead on arrival, said Cheryl Sims, supervising fire dispatcher for the LACFD.

Emergency personnel are still investigating the incident.

  20. Where’s the CHP and SCV Sheriff’s on the Old Road? No traffic control at Parker Road and Lake Hughes Road. Travelers heading north are getting off at Hasley and creating a huge mess for local residents.
