SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The Master’s College Athletic Department has released the 2013 women’s soccer schedule.
“We have a team that can compete against some of the NAIA’s best,” said seventh-year head coach Curtis Lewis. “Should the Lord allow us to stay healthy, it should be a really fun year. We’re playing a handful of teams that sit in the NAIA’s top 25, and if we can compete at our highest level, I’m excited to see the results.”
Out of the Lady Mustang’s 18 regular-season matches, three of them will be against teams featured in the 2012 NAIA Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Postseason Top 25 Poll.
The first of those will come on September 21 when the Lady Mustangs host Cal State San Marcos. The Cougars finished 19-3-0 last year, and earned a No. 17 ranking in the NAIA’s postseason Top 25 poll.
Five weeks later, TMC will travel to Costa Mesa to take on Vanguard, the reigning Golden State Athletic Conference champion. The Lions rank fifth in the national polls, and went 18-2-1 in 2012.
On October 23, the Lady Mustangs will host GSAC opponent Westmont. The Warriors finished 2012 with a 12-6-1 record, ranking second in conference play and No. 19 in the NAIA.
Notably, the Lady Mustangs are slated to face five teams that received votes in the 2012 NAIA Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Postseason Top 25 Poll: Embry-Riddle (Ariz.), Grace College (Ind.), Biola University, Southern Oregon University, and Westminster College.
The Lady Mustangs will play a total of 10 matches on Reese Field.
TMC went 12-6-2 in 2012 and finished 6-4 in the Golden State Athletic Conference. Coach Lewis and his squad will look to write a new chapter in Lady Mustang soccer as they begin their 2013 campaign in a home opener against Grace College (IN) on August 15, at 4:00 PM on Reese Field.
