logo_chpA Van Nuys man died Thursday night when he lost control of his motorcycle on Sierra Highway near Red Rover Mine Road in Acton.

Raul Diaz Jr., 55, was driving a 2002 Harley Davidson southbound on Sierra Highway when he “failed to follow the curve of the roadway and continued straight,” according to a report from the California Highway Patrol.

“(H)is front tire went up and over a raised concrete curb and down a descending landscape slope,” the report states. His Harley Davidson Road Glide “continued forward until the front end of (the vehicle) struck a dip in the dirt, causing (Diaz) to be ejected onto the dirt, resulting in fatal injuries.”

CHP Officer Patrick Kimball said the crash occurred at about 7:37 p.m. on Sierra Highway at the Red Rover Mine Road off-ramp from Highway 14. Both the victim and his motorcycle ended up near the intersection of Red Rover and Sierra.

Diaz’s rate of speed at the time he lost control of his vehicle was undetermined.

A Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedic pronounced him dead at 7:59 p.m.

Emergency responders concluded their work and the roadway was fully reopened at 10:08 p.m.
