SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The Master’s College Athletic Department and eighth-year men’s basketball head coach Chuck Martin have released the 2013-14 schedule.
“I like the way the schedule has come together,” said Martin. “I feel it will allow us to grow as a team and provide some challenges that will tell us exactly where we are at during the preseason. I think it will thoroughly prepare us for what is always a difficult GSAC schedule, and provide the players with games they will enjoy playing in.”
The Mustangs’ 2013-14 slate consists of 32 contests against a variety of teams spanning NCAA Division I and the GSAC. Of the scheduled 16 home games in the newly-renovated MacArthur Center, the Mustangs will face three familiar faces featured in the 2012-13 NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Postseason Top 25 Poll: No. 12 Westmont, No. 17 Hope International, and No. 20 Concordia. TMC will also host Southern Oregon University, the 10th ranked squad on the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Postseason Top 25 Poll.
Notable NAIA nationally-ranked teams the Mustangs are scheduled to visit included No. 17 CSU San Marcos, and NAIA Division II power, No. 23 Cal Maritime.
Coach Martin and his Mustangs will begin their regular season schedule with a home opener against West Coast Baptist on November 7 at 7:00 PM. Last fall, TMC topped the Eagles 84-77 in a packed crowd at Bross Gymnasium.
In their 2012-13 campaign, the Mustangs bolted to an 11-3 start, highlighted by a six-game winning streak in December, but faltered over the final two months to finish 16-14 (5-9 GSAC).
Looking to right the ship in 2013-14, coach Martin has signed four key additions who are expected to mesh well with the six returning veterans.
