The SCV Youth Project, which opened in 2000, has assisted more than 33,000 local families, including 29,000 youth and 5,500 adults.  The nonprofit provides services on 10 of the 12 schools in the William S. Hart High School District and last year provided more than 8,000 hours of service to more than 1,000 teens in the SCV with serious life challenges, including depression, suicide, grief/loss, peer pressure and drug/alcohol abuse, said Kim Goldman, executive director of the SCV Youth Project. Goldman became executive director in 2005.

Among the services offered are one-on-one counseling, support groups, outreach education and crisis intervention.

“The services we provide are 100 percent free,” said Goldman. The nonprofit is funded by donations, fundraisers and grants.

“We appreciate all the support we receive from the community,” she said. “We impact the lives of so many teens in the SCV who are struggling with normal teen issues and don’t have somewhere to turn for guidance and support.”

Goldman said the SCV Youth Project is an important organization for such a “family-focused community as the Santa Clarita Valley.”

“It’s important to be able to put your dollars back into the community in a way that supports families and teens,” she said. “I can’t think of a better reason to support this event.”

Taylor Spreitler from ABC Family’s Melissa and Joey will also be a cake judge.

The Hart District currently has a student population of nearly 23,000 students, said Gail Pinsker, public relations officer of the Hart District.

Each of the cakes offered in the auction will be paired with items such as trips, gift certificates, event tickets, gift baskets and other prizes worth at least $100, said Goldman.

Goldman said among the cakes offered will but entrants from several area high schools.

“This is something new we are doing this year and we have West Ranch High School, William S. Hart High School and Saugus High School attending,” she said. “The schools will attend with their cheerleaders and are raising money in advance of the event. We will donate back to the schools based on the amount of money raised.”

Goldman said the event will also offer only 21 cakes this year.

Sean Valentine, a morning radio personality on 104.3 MYfm, will also be a cake judge.
