1863 - Gen. Edward F. Beale loans money to A.A. Hudson and Oliver P. Robbins to erect toll house in Newhall Pass [story]

Riding all-terrain vehicles in undesignated areas could get you cited in the Acton-Agua Dulce Area.

Although this is a great time of year to ride an ATV, or all-terrain vehicle, keep in mind you must ride in areas designated for these types of vehicles.

Every year the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station receives hundreds of calls for service regarding illegal riders, mainly in the Acton-Agua Dulce area.

Many of these riders are individuals who live in these communities.

This is a very upsetting situation for the residents of the Acton-Agua Dulce area because ATV riding in these two communities are prohibited.

The land is either privately owned or owned by utility companies, therefore riding in these areas is illegal.

The Palmdale Sheriff’s Station has an off road team which is funded by a grant through the state and county Department of Parks and Recreation.

These deputies are assigned to patrol these areas and look for illegal riders.

Generally the team dedicates over 48 hours a month to the Acton-Agua Dulce area and contacts between 10-20 people during their shift.

If you are on an ATV and stopped, you will be cited for riding in non-designated area, pursuant to 15.68.020 of the Los Angeles County Code (LACC) – Off Road Vehicle Trespassing.

We are asking the public to please refrain from riding in non-designated riding areas. If you would like information on areas that have been designated in Southern California please visit www.ohvguide.com.

If you have any other questions or concerns please contact Jodi Wolfe at 661-272-2520 or email jewolfe@lasd.org.

    Good…do it!!!!!!

  3. There is plenty of space for both. We have horses and dirt bikes, respecting horses is important and easy. It’s also a great area for dirt bike and atv riding. I have yet to hear a good reason why atv’s are not allowed in Acton and Agua Dulce.

What part of … “The land is either privately owned or owned by utility companies, therefore riding in these areas is illegal” and “If you would like information on areas that have been designated in Southern California please visit http://www.ohvguide.com.” do we not understand people? its not rocket science…it is called trespassing which is illegal. There are plenty of areas to ride that are NOT illegal.

  10. Mark says:

My motorcycle has never stopped to relieve itself on the trail, nor does it ever eat the fragile vegetation. Why we are cited and the horses are overlooked is ridiculous. And in addition the sheriff can’t legally write a ticket on someone’s private property. Who is to say I don’t have the land owners permission to ride there. Innocent intil proven giuilty? I think not. Last I checked we were living way south of the Russian border. Maybe not anymore.

  11. Brett says:

But it’s ok for the sheriff to be riding in the same hills we aren’t allowed to ride it. If there’s a call that’s one thing. For them to do the exact same thing we are is a joke. Our dollars find this nonsense.

  12. Jeff says:

Trespassing is trespassing regardless of what type of vehicle or animal one is riding. There have been countless times riders on horseback have cut though private property, damaging fences, disrupting the peaceful enjoyment one gets living in a rural setting.

Perhaps it is time to put a statute on the books for Off Road Equestrian Trespassing. We can cite and fine those riding horses, mules and donkeys too.
