Lady Mustangs Ground Eagles

[Tahoe, Sept. 10] – The Master’s University women’s soccer team improved its 2016 record to 3-2-2 after beating Sierra Nevada College 3-2 on Saturday in Tahoe.

TMU’s Victoria Gama put the Lady Mustangs on the board eight minutes into play.

20 minutes later, Kayla Peterson launched a corner kick to teammate Michaela Rickard who placed the ball in the Eagles’ goal for a 2-0 advantage.

Three minutes later, the Eagles cut TMU’s lead with 12 minutes left in the first half.

TMU’s defense held strong, and they entered intermission with a 2-1 lead.

Forty minutes into the second half, TMU’s Jasmine Parada’s assist set up Hannah Bahr, who put the ball between the Eagles’ pipes, giving the Lady Mustangs a 3-1 advantage.

Five minutes later, the Eagles bested TMU’s goalkeeping efforts, and cut the Lady Mustangs’ lead to 3-2.

Fortunately, the Lady Mustangs’ defense held off any further attempts in the remaining minutes of play and notched their third win of the season.

Next Saturday, TMU will hit the road for a road match against Marymount College. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. on the campus of El Camino College.

Lady Mustangs Conquer Mountaineers

[Tahoe, Sept. 9] – The Master’s University women’s soccer team improved its 2016 record to 2-2-2 on Friday after beating Eastern Oregon University 2-1 in Tahoe.

“Our girls fought hard today and were able to take a lead early in the second half with Kinley Kane scoring her first goal of the season,” assessed TMU head coach Curtis Lewis. “Unfortunately we allowed them to come immediately down after the restart and get a penalty kick. Jessica Zubia made the initial save and then two more saves on the follow up to keep us up 1-0. Then, they tied it up off a laser free kick from 35 yards out. We were able to regain the lead when Michaela Rickard scored off a corner kick in which she rose up and slammed it home for the game winner. Eastern Oregon is a really dangerous team on set pieces, and especially with a small field, every throw in was like a corner kick with their flip throw in. We did what we needed to do to get back in the win column. With so many injuries, we are taking it game by game and just seeing the test that is before us.”
