Fans of the Peanuts comic strip can now show their enthusiasm for one of its most popular characters by ordering the newly released ‘Snoopy’ license plate.
The comical, white beagle is prominently featured on the special interest license plate and is intended to generate support for California museums, zoos, aquariums, and science centers. These are places Peanuts gang creator, Charles M. Schulz, visited to gather inspiration for story lines that brought his endearing characters to life, according to the artist’s family.
A portion of the fees that the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) collects from orders of the ‘Snoopy’ license plate will be placed into a designated fund that the California Cultural and Historical Endowment administers.
“The Snoopy license plate will not only serve as a reminder about the importance of our cultural attractions in California, but will also help raise money to support these educational efforts,” said DMV Director Jean Shiomoto. “Like the plate says, museums are for everyone.”
“The California Cultural and Historical Endowment (CCHE) has a 10-year history of preserving California’s cultural heritage through grants to over 150 projects throughout California,” said California Secretary for Natural Resources John Laird, chair of the CCHE board. “It is heartening to know that so many Californians are proudly supporting California’s cultural heritage through the purchase of Snoopy license plates. Thank you to each of these Californians and I look forward to seeing the license plates out on the road.”
To order the California museums ‘Snoopy’ license plate, visit www.dmv.ca.gov. Sequential (standard numbering) plates can be purchased for $50. Personalized (custom numbers/letters) plates cost $98. Renewal rates are $40 and $78, respectively.
For more information about how proceeds from the ‘Snoopy’ license plate program will be allocated, visit the California Natural Resources Agency’s website at http://resources.ca.gov/cche/snoopyplate/ .
