The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station will soon become one of the first law enforcement facilities in Los Angeles County to stock supplies of the life-saving opioid overdose medication Narcan.
Santa Clarita Mayor Cameron Smyth, County Supervisor Kathryn Barger and Sheriff’s and health officials are set to make an official announcement in a news conference at the SCV Sheriff’s Station Tuesday morning.
The Sheriff’s Department is issuing single-dose nasal spray dispensers to deputies in the Santa Clarita Valley, Crescenta Valley and East Los Angeles, as well as to deputies patrolling community colleges and parks.
“While we continue to fight the opioid problem plaguing our county, our first responders in law enforcement will now have a vital tool to help victims survive an overdose and have another chance at life,” Barger said.
“In addition, we will be working with county agencies and the city on our U-C.A.N. strategy to increase awareness and provide proactive strategies to help stop opioid abuse,” she said.
