The Castaic Union School District will host a “Welcome Back Breakfast” and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials will provide a two-hour “active shooter” training session at Castaic Middle School on Tuesday, August 8, starting at 8:15 a.m.
The training in the school’s Multipurpose Room is designed to prepare school staff so they know how to respond if and when a person with a gun opens fire on a Castaic school campus.
“While this is not something that we wish to think about happening in our community, we believe it is in the best interest of our students, staff and families to be aptly prepared, for their safety and protection,” CUSD officials said in a news release.
No firearms will be discharged during the training, CUSD officials confirmed.
LASD deputies participating in the training include Deputy Brian Rooney – Zone Leader, Castaic and Val Verde; Deputy Tobe Coe – School Resource Officer; Deputy Mike Sellers – Master Field Trainer; and Deputy Brian Harding – Tactical and Survival Trainer.
Castaic Middle School is located at 28900 Hillcrest Parkway, Castaic 91384.
