The Quakes rallied for an unearned run in the seventh and another run in the eighth, both against reliever Logan Cozart, but Yonathan Daza helped keep the JetHawks ahead with his glove. With a one-run lead in the eighth, Cozart worked with runners at second and third and two outs. Daza raced towards the wall to make a running catch on a Zach McKinstry fly ball to end the inning.
Lancaster (60-51, 22-19) scored two insurance runs in the ninth inning to extend the lead. Roberto Ramos and Hamlet Marte started the inning with singles. Ramos eventually scored on a Wes Rogers sac-fly, and Marte came home on a Chris Rabago single.
The JetHawks built a 3-0 lead behind Killian against starter Michael Boyle (4-4) and reliever Sven Schueller. Rogers and Marte picked up runs with back-to-back doubles in the second inning. Rogers now has 28 doubles to lead the Cal League.
Ramos blasted a home run to straightaway centerfield, his 11th of the season, against Schueller in the sixth to make it 3-0.
Here’s the box score.
The JetHawks and Quakes continue the four-game series tonight at LoanMart Field. Jesus Tinoco (7-4) starts for the JetHawks against left-hander Devin Smeltzer (4-3). First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
