California State University, Northridge senior Arvis Greene picked up his second consecutive Big West Player of the Week award in men’s volleyball Monday after leading the then-No. 10 Matadors to a pair of upset wins over No. 3 Hawai’i last week.
Greene, who now has three conference Player of the Week honors this season (Feb, 12, Mar. 5), is the first Matador player since Eric Vance in 2009 to earn conference accolades in consecutive weeks. Vance earned back-to-back MPSF Player of the Week honors Jan. 12th and 19th of the 2009 season.
Greene averaged 5.33 kills, 0.83 digs and 1.17 blocks per set in the Matadors’ two wins, hitting a combined .387. He had a co-match high 18 kills on .438 hitting in the opener on Thursday to go with a pair of digs and two blocks. In Friday’s series finale, Greene had a team-high 14 kills (.333) with three digs and a pair of blocks.
For the week, Greene averaged 5.33 kills, 0.83 digs and 1.17 blocks per set while also contributing 6.1 points per set.
“Arvis has really put together a great stretch of matches,” said head coach Jeff Campbell. “His confidence has really grown over the last few weeks and he’s really been improving. What we need for Arvis to do is to lead by example the rest of the way and to continue helping us get better as we build momentum towards the Big West Tournament.”
The Matadors, ranked eighth in this week’s AVCA Top-15 National Poll, are off until resuming Big West play March 30 against UC Santa Barbara.
