LANCASTER – The University of Antelope Valley Pioneers (13-3) continued their winning ways on Monday night, blowing out the Warriors of Westcliff University (1-15), 113-39 earning their fourth-consecutive victory in intercollegiate, non-conference, women’s basketball action inside the Pioneer Event Center.
Senior guard Daizah Pounds (Richmond, CA) led all scorers in the contest with 18 points, shooting 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, junior guard Kaylyn James (Long Beach, CA) added 17 points, two assists and one steal, and sophomore forward Alexia Budd (Los Angeles, CA) continued her solid play, scoring 16 points while grabbing nine rebounds, completing her fifth-consecutive game with at least 12 points and eight boards, also shooting 40-of-53 from the field (.754) during that stretch.
Junior guard Asia Young (Kansas City, MO) finished with double-digit points with 10, also adding seven rebounds, two assists and one block and steal, senior guard T’airah Pryor (Long Beach, CA) dropped nine points and added two assists and two steals, and junior guard Denisha Spivey (Rialto, CA) chipped in with eight points, four assists, three rebounds and three steals.
UAV hit 44-of-92 field goals (.478), 17-of-45 three-pointers (.378), 8-of-10 free throws (.800), and outrebounded the Warriors, 50-24. The Pioneers committed 10 turnovers and stole the ball 16 times. Westcliff made 13-of-55 shots (.236), 6-of-31 three-pointers (.194) and 7-of-12 free throws (.583) and committed 25 turnovers and stole the ball from UAV six times.
NEXT GAME: Coached by Deon Price, the Pioneers hit the road for a two-game road trip in Arizona, first playing Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in a California Pacific Conference contest on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 5 p.m. PST in Prescott, Ariz.
