College of the Canyons cross country saw eight of its student-athletes earn All-Western State Conference honors in a season in which both the men’s and women’s programs were once again represented at the California Community College Athletic Association State Championship meet in Fresno.
The women’s squad, which finished as conference runner-up, had a total of five honorees, while the men’s team, which placed seventh in conference, had three runners recognized.
Individual results from the WSC Championship meet held at Kern County Soccer Park in Bakersfield on Oct. 20, were used to determine All-Conference selections.
Earning All-WSC First Team honors for the COC women’s team were sophomores Díani Ellis and Stephanie Martinez who finished fourth and sixth, respectively, at the WSC Championships.
Freshman Guadalupe Ruiz was also a First Team selection after placing 13th in the field of 89 runners that took part in the women’s 5K event.
COC sophomores Sophia Stephan who finished 25th and Celine Whitman in the 27th spot both earned All-WSC Second Team awards.
For the men’s team it was sophomore Garrett Noltemeyer earning All-WSC First Team honors with his 11th place finish on the four-mile course.
Freshman Travis Cetti earned Second Team honors from the 20th spot and sophomore
Cody Roelofson at 24th was an Honorable Mention selection.
