Here are agenda highlights for the next meeting of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, set for Tuesday, August 8, starting at 9:30 a.m.:

“Best in Category” award recipient as well as 14 County Departments recognized as recipients of National Association of Counties awards.

Richard Bruckner recognized for his retirement as the Director of Planning.

Assyrian American Association of Southern California recognized for International Assyrian Memorial Day.

Members of the Maywood Parking Control, East Los Angeles Sheriff’s department and the California Highway Patrol recognized for their coordinated effort in apprehending the suspect of a fatal hit and run.

Supervisor Hahn recommends the transfer of $351,800 to the Community Development Commission for the Los Nietos Community Center to incorporate additional energy efficient measures into the Community Center. (Item 2, relates to Agenda 1-D)

Supervisors Barger and Solis recommend a five-signature letter to be sent to Governor Brown and the Los Angeles County Legislative Delegation in support of legislation aimed at improving post-secondary achievement among foster youth by increasing the rate of financial aid awards. (Item 4)

Supervisors Solis and Hahn instruct each Department Head to engage in succession planning efforts such as mentorship programs, affinity groups, peer-to-peer support designed to build workforce diversity and develop leadership and networking opportunities. (Item 6)

Supervisors Barger and Solis direct the Chief Executive Officer to send a five-signature letter to Governor Brown, Los Angeles County Legislative Delegation as well as Assembly Member Quirk to support legislation which would require the California Department of Public Health to reassess the risk factors that determine whether a child is “at risk” of elevated blood lead levels. (Item 7)

Supervisors Kuehl and Barger instruct the Director of Mental Health in collaboration with the Director of the Health Agency and the Chief Executive Officer to convene with mental health experts, consumers and advocates to evaluate the current conservatorship process, the means for improving it, evaluating the adequacy of existing staffing patterns for the Office of Public Guardian and a systematic approach to following clients who are gravely disabled. Supervisor Kuehl recommends that the Director of Planning adopt an interim urgency ordinance temporarily prohibiting the establishment or expansion of outdoor dance pavilions.  (Item 10)

Supervisor Kuehl directs the Chief Executive Officer and the County’s legislative advocates in Sacramento to express the Board’s opposition to a legislative bill that would require a psychiatric unit within a general acute care hospital until the bill reflects the County’s concerns towards important protections for patients who might be involuntarily transferred. (Item 11)

Recommendation to adopt a resolution approving the public auction sale of tax-defaulted property to be held October 23 – 24, 2017 at the Pomona Fairplex. (Item 16)

Authorization sought for a $476,400 agreement for enhanced access to transportation for elderly and disabled adults through the New Freedom Volunteer Driver Mileage Reimbursement Program services. (Item 19)

Approval sought for the revised Bonelli Equestrian Center Refurbishment Project for a total project budget of $2,300,000. (Item 21)

Approval sought for the San Fernando Mental Health Center Project with a total budget of $14,500,000. (Item 25)

Approval sought for the George C. Page Museum Repairs Project for a total budget of $1,700,000. (Item 28)

Approval sought for the revised Marina del Rey Boathouse Refurbishment Project for a total budget of $7,307,000. (Item 29)

Recommendation by the Claims Board to authorize a $1,500,000 settlement for a lawsuit alleging Federal civil rights abuses and wrongful death by a Sheriff’s Deputy. (Item 41)
