Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Crime Prevention Unit
Last week, the following Part 1 crimes occurred in Canyon Country East:
(1) Spousal Assault, (1) GTA, (3) thefts from unlocked vehicles, (1) Grand theft.
During the past week we again saw a reduction in part 1 crimes in Zone 8. There were 3 thefts from vehicles reported in Zone 8. Two thefts from unlocked vehicles occurred near the 20000 block of Fieldwood Ct. In both incidents the victims left their vehicles unlocked. The suspects made entry into the vehicles and stole electronic items. This is a good reminder for people to remove items such as GPS’s and phones from their cars when they park them. Also remember to lock your car doors when you leave them unattended.
A grand theft auto occurred near the 28000 block of Sarabande Ln. The victim got into an argument with his ex-girlfriend (suspect). The suspect took the victim’s car keys from inside of the victim’s house and without permission, took the vehicle. The victim reported his car stolen a short time later. The car was recovered shortly after this incident.
A male transient suspect, who lives behind a business near the 17000 block of Sierra Hwy, entered a business and stole a laptop from a desk. The suspect was captured a short time later and the stolen laptop was returned to the owner. The suspect was later booked at the Santa Clarita station jail.
Someone went into the Verizon store on Golden Valley Rd and stole an iPhone 5, which was on display. There was no suspect information regarding this theft.
Two catalytic converters were stolen from underneath a truck that was parked near the intersection of Jason Dr/Jakes Way. If you see someone suspicious underneath a vehicle, call the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station to report it. Thefts of catalytic converters cost victims several hundreds of dollars to replace.
