Here is the Stevenson Ranch (Zone 3) Public Safety and Crime Prevention Information for the week of Jan. 11-17, 2016:

-An attempt Burglary occurred near the 25400 block of Verne Ct. A male adult attempted to force entry into the victim’s home via the front door, causing minor damage to the door and window.

-A Forgery/Petty Theft occurred near the 29000 block of Commerce Center Dr. Person(s) unknown entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and stole her backpack containing clothing and a checkbook. Later that day, a male adult attempted to cash one of the victim’s checks for $700.00 at a local bank. The bank declined to cash the check due to the fact that the signature on the check did not match the victim’s signature. The suspect fled the bank before he could be detained by bank personnel.

-A Petty Theft shoplifting occurred near the 25400 block of The Old Rd. A male adult attempted to leave the location with several items that he did not pay for. He was arrested by responding deputies.

Tip of the Week: Preventing Thefts In Your Are

Preventing thefts in your area is as easy as locking doors and keeping high value items out of view. If you must leave high value items in your vehicle, secure them in the trunk where they are out of view, and lock your vehicle. If you own bicycles, always lock them with a good quality lock whenever left unattended. If available, store your bicycles in your garage and lock your doors. If you do not have a garage, try to store your bicycles somewhere on your property out of view and lock them to a secure and permanent fixture.

Thieves are not like fishermen. They do not keep their favorite fishing holes a secret. Word gets out quickly when an area is an easy target, which attracts more crime. Taking time to secure your vehicle and property will discourage thieves and help keep our community safe.
