The nonprofit Blue Star Ranch in Saugus, which provides free services to local military veterans and their families, is seeking donations to help pay for a move to a larger facility.
The all-volunteer organization, dedicated to assisting post-combat veterans with post traumatic stress disorder or PTSD, hopes to raise $15,000 by the end of August through donations at the ranch’s website at BlueStarRanch.org.
“Our reason for moving is so we can expand our services to the veterans and their families,” said Nancy Pitchford-Zhe, ranch spokesperson.
“In order to do that we need more space, and the ability to gain two more therapy horses,” named Quigley and Mini Cooper, Pitchford said.
Pitchford said BSR has successfully completed negotiations with the owner of a property in Newhall, and they will begin moving at the end of August to the new location at the intersection of Sierra Highway at Placeritos Canyon, adjacent to Highway 14.
“We still need donations but folks are responding,” Pitchford said Sunday. “Thank you, Santa Clarita!”
Donations may be made at the Blue Star Ranch website, where visitors can also read testimonials from graduate veterans.
Blue Star Ranch has also been invited to provide beverage service at the Valencia Jazz & Blues concert on Town Center Drive on Friday, Aug. 2. All tip proceeds will go to the ranch. To volunteer as a server that night, call Pitchford at 661-312-6184.
