UPDATE: 5:02 p.m. Forward progress has been stopped for a brush fire near College of the Canyons’ Valencia campus, officials said. Evening classes at the college have been canceled.
UPDATE: 4:30 p.m. The fire was initially reported around 3 p.m., according to fire officials. Aerial units, including helicopters and a SuperScooper, are currently assisting firefighters.
10 cars were damaged, but no injuries were reported according to fire officials.
There are numerous traffic impacts due to firefighters’ efforts to put out the blaze. Fire officials have closed Valencia Boulevard, from the 5 Freeway to Rockwell Canyon Road. Fire officials hope to have the road re-opened by 6 p.m.
The campus remains open, according to officials. Official are encouraging students to leave extra time to get to class.
UPDATE: 4:25 p.m. A brush fire near COC is currently at about 4 acres, but reports of size from emergency responders ranged as large as 10 acres.
