SACRAMENTO – California Attorney General Xavier Becerra and a coalition of 18 attorneys general have successfully intervened in the House v. Price lawsuit to protect access to affordable healthcare coverage for millions of Americans.
Becerra is leading the coalition to defend the federal government’s payment of cost-sharing subsidies included in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that help lower Americans’ health care costs.
“We are ready to get in and defend the Affordable Care Act, which millions of Americans rely on,” Becerra said. “If Donald Trump won’t defend these vital subsidies for American families, then we will. This ruling gives my fellow attorneys general and me the ability to stand up for the millions of families who otherwise would lack access to affordable health care. It’s time Americans knew we were working for them, not against them.”
Background:
On May 18, Attorney General Becerra took legal action to protect health care access for millions of Americans, including nearly a million Californians. Tuesday afternoon, the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals granted the States’ motion to intervene in House v. Price.
The states joining California and New York in this effort are Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia and Washington, and the District of Columbia.
