[KHTS] – While mall thieves have returned a missing baby Jesus from the Nativity scene to Westfield Valencia Town Center officials, Santa Clarita detectives are investigating another Christmas-time crime.
Santa Clarita detectives are investigating the theft of approximately 100 Christmas trees from a local business, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station reports.
“The amount of trees and the value of the trees stolen classifies this as a grand theft case,” said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The value of the theft is expected to exceed $3,000, according to reports.
An official with Green Thumb Nursery in Newhall reported that the trees were stolen between Dec. 6-8, from the lot located on the 23700 block of Newhall Avenue in Newhall.
The trees were taken during the night, and deputies noted there were holes cut into the fence at the lot, which is believed to be how the trees were stolen.
No additional tree thefts have been reported since the initial incidents, Dubin said.
The lot where the business keeps its trees abuts the Village Apartments on Valle De Oro; however, no suspects have been identified at this time, Dubin said.
