The city of Santa Clarita is accepting names of youth ages 24 and younger who lost their lives in traffic-related incidents, for inclusion in the Annual Youth Grove Evening of Remembrance.
The event will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 7:15 p.m. at the Youth Grove at Central Park, located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road.
To submit a name to be displayed at the Youth Grove, parents must complete a signed release form and submit it to the City’s Community Services division, located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway, by Wednesday, June 15.
Each year, the City and the Blue Ribbon Task Force host the Evening of Remembrance to honor the local youth who lost their lives in traffic related incidents and encourage our community to drive safe.
All names submitted for the Youth Grove will be presented at the Annual Evening of Remembrance on pillars that mimic cut tree stumps to represent a young life cut too short on the road. The pillars surround a central monument urging the community to “Know More” about safe driving habits and to pledge that “No More” young lives will be lost behind the wheel.
The half-acre Youth Grove memorial is dedicated to educating the community about safe driving and offers a place for reflection. It is home to 93 individual pillars, each with a plaque bearing the name of a young life lost in a traffic-related incident.
Prior to the Evening of Remembrance, community members are invited to participate in the Walk of Remembrance. The walk will begin at 6:45 p.m. at Central Park and will reinforce the importance of safe driving.
For more information on the Youth Grove or to obtain a release form, contact Community Services at (661) 250-3708 or visit Santa-Clarita.com/BlueRibbon.

What defines a child vs an adult? My son, who grew up in SCV, was killed in FL on 9/2/15 at the age of 33, due to a violent traffic crash. Of course the driver going 65mph in a 35mph zone, under the influence of drugs, walked away literally with 2 leg scratches. It took TWO Fire Companies & combined equipment to extricate his mangled body as the Coroner stood by. I want my son remembered, regardless of whether he was 24 or 33! Did anyone with influence on this memorial lose a child in a traffic crash because of a driver who was DUI?

My son fits all of your “criteria” except for his age. At only 33, he was a young adult, just as if he was 24!
Well we don’t know the answer; you want to ask the city, not us. The contact information is in the story.
